Tohshin Technical Co., Ltd. presents its "Long Workpiece Grinding Solution," a high-speed, automatic setup system engineered to overcome significant challenges in grinding long shafts. Conventional methods are plagued by lengthy setup times that escalate with workpiece diameter changes, extended grinding cycles, and inconsistent dimensional accuracy at the workpiece's rear end, often caused by through-center misalignment and "pinch-out" effects leading to increased outer diameters. The proposed solution is a centerless grinding machine equipped with a bar feeder and advanced setup-assist functionality. This comprehensive system automates slide and bar feeder movements, eliminating the need for manual setup skills. It integrates sliding mechanisms for grinding and dressing wheels with a tilting workrest slide, ensuring consistent through-center alignment for workpieces ranging from φ5 to 40 mm in diameter and up to 6 meters in length, irrespective of workpiece or wheel dimensions. A critical technical detail is the pinch-out control, which precisely adjusts the outer diameter at the workpiece's rear end. This setup-assist function dramatically reduces operator-dependent setup time, allowing completion in as little as five minutes with a single button press, a significant reduction compared to conventional systems. This ensures consistent centerline alignment across the entire workpiece, enabling precise machining to the very end and effectively eliminating tail-end material loss. The system also demonstrates superior performance with significantly higher pass speeds and improved cylindricity, leading to enhanced productivity and product quality.
