Achieving Performance Requirements through Precision Tension Control with Servo Tension

The Challenges
In coil manufacturing, a "safe tension" limit is predetermined for each type of wire. It is essential to set the appropriate tension type and value to match the specific requirements of the product.
This project involved air-core coils for motors and actuators, which required ultra-precision aligned winding for the outer diameter, along with high-level tension adjustment. Due to these rigorous demands, traditional tension control methods struggled to achieve the necessary accuracy and performance standards.
The Solution
To meet these requirements, Pronec implemented Servo Tension and Electronic Tension systems. Servo tension technology measures the load applied to the winding motor and utilizes feedback control signals to enable ultra-precise tension adjustments.
Furthermore, by applying our internal "limit tension" standards, we were able to establish the optimal tension settings according to the product's specifications, successfully fulfilling the customer's performance requirements.
The Results
The implementation of servo tension delivered the following outcomes:
Enabled Ultra-Precision Aligned Winding: Strict control over tension allowed for highly uniform and precise winding.
Improved Production Yield: Increased stability in the manufacturing process led to a significant reduction in defective units.
Improved CPK (Process Capability Index): Product quality became more consistent, and process variation was effectively suppressed.
