Secondary Processing and Assembly after Press Forming

Press parts may require multiple processes after forming, such as welding, painting, caulking, and component assembly.

The company handles not only press forming, but also various types of welding, Powder Coating, Solvent Painting, caulking, Tapping, and the assembly of small components within its own factory.

Because secondary processing and assembly after press forming can be handled together, customers can reduce the need to arrange different suppliers for each process and consolidate coordination and management between processes.

A key feature is not simply the number of processes available, but the ability to consider suitable secondary processing methods based on both the press-forming process and downstream processes, according to the requirements of each product.

Process and Method Proposals Based on Requirements

The following are the main secondary processes supported by the company.

Main Supported Processes

Process Type

Supported Processes

Features / Application Examples

Welding

Spot Welding, Projection Welding, Fiber Laser Welding, YAG Laser Welding, TIG Welding, etc.

Welding methods are selected according to requirements such as flatness, appearance, thermal distortion, and joint strength

Painting

Powder Coating, Solvent Painting

Painting methods are selected according to product requirements such as corrosion resistance, appearance, and heat resistance

Silk Screen Printing

Printing of letters, markings, etc.

Supports lettering and markings on areas visible to end users

Caulking / Tapping

High-Spin Caulking, Tapping, etc.

Supports secondary processing after pressing, including component joining and thread processing

Assembly

Assembly of small components, etc.

Various components are assembled onto parts after pressing and secondary processing before delivery

Welding

The company has multiple welding methods and uses them according to product requirements.

Projection Welding can weld multiple points at once while maintaining flatness. For products with many welding points, it can also reduce the number of process steps.

YAG Laser Welding and Fiber Laser Welding are suitable for parts where appearance is important or where thermal distortion needs to be minimized.

TIG Welding can be used for parts requiring high joint strength, and build-up welding can also be proposed depending on requirements.

Painting

Both Powder Coating and Solvent Painting are supported.

Powder Coating can provide a coating thickness of approximately 80–100 μm in a single coating process and offers strong corrosion resistance, making it suitable for parts used in outdoor environments.

Solvent Painting is suitable for parts where appearance is important. By using heat-resistant paint, it can also be applied to parts requiring heat resistance.

Silk Screen Printing for letters and markings is also supported.

Caulking and Tapping

High-Spin Caulking and Tapping are also supported.

High-Spin Caulking is performed relatively slowly, which provides benefits in maintaining perpendicularity and reducing distortion. Depending on product requirements, it can be incorporated as a secondary process after press forming.

Assembly

The company also supports the assembly of small components onto parts that have undergone press forming and secondary processing.

Rather than delivering only press parts, customers can also consult the company about required secondary processing and component assembly, allowing downstream processes and supplier arrangements on the customer side to be consolidated.

Benefits and Technical Proposals through Integrated Processing

A key feature of the company’s secondary processing and assembly capability is that individual processes are not handled in isolation. Instead, the company can review the entire process flow, including press forming, and propose suitable processing methods and process configurations.

Because die manufacturing, press forming, welding, painting, caulking, and assembly can be coordinated internally, process design can take into account not only the shape of the press part but also compatibility with downstream processes and workability during mass production.

From the quotation and preliminary review stages, Thai and Japanese team members work together to review product drawings and required specifications, define processing conditions, and conduct trials when necessary.

For example, in painting, the company has made a VE proposal to replace a previously outsourced plating process with in-house Solvent Painting. By reducing outsourced processes, this resulted in shorter lead time and lower cost.

In this way, the company does more than simply accept secondary processing and assembly after press forming as a combined scope of work. It can also propose the processing method and process configuration itself while taking into account requirements for quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
