Plastic Mold SWISS STEEL - DEW Formadur PH X Superclean
Formadur PH X Superclean is a premium precipitation-hardenable remelted steel from Swiss Steel, engineered to set new standards in plastic mold manufacturing by offering exceptional corrosion resistance and outstanding polishability. This advanced material is specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of modern plastic processing, enabling molds to withstand condensation, cooling water, and corrosive plastics such as PVC or aminoplasts without acid separation, thereby extending tool life and reducing maintenance. Its unique homogeneous microstructure, characterized by a minimum of carbides, eliminates the need for stress-relief annealing after rough machining, ensuring low internal stress and superior shape retention during production. Supplied in a pre-hardened condition of 38-42 HRC, Formadur PH X Superclean requires no additional heat treatment, simplifying manufacturing processes and contributing to its excellent dimensional stability. Technically, its chemical composition includes approximately 0.05% Carbon, 15.00% Chromium, 4.50% Nickel, and 3.50% Copper, which are critical for its high strength, corrosion resistance, and overall performance. Compared to conventional steel grades like 1.2316, Formadur PH X Superclean demonstrates significantly superior corrosion resistance, toughness, polishability, and shape retention, as evidenced by its "++++" ratings in these categories. This makes it particularly suitable for applications demanding high-quality surfaces and long-term reliability. Key applications include molds and mold inserts for the automotive industry, such as headlight reflectors, the optical industry, including spectacle lenses and optical inserts, and components in chemical and aeronautics industries, especially where processing corrosive plastics is involved. For plastic manufacturers, this steel significantly boosts profitability, productivity, and quality by ensuring a long service life, unimpeded cooling channels free from corrosion-induced blockages, and the consistent achievement of high-quality surface finishes, even under challenging climatic conditions with high humidity or salt content. Its development is based on Formadur 2316, further enhancing its properties.
