About Chromium (barrel)
This is a processing method that treats numerous small parts inside a rotating barrel (a drum-shaped container) using electroless plating, which deposits a nickel alloy film through a chemical reaction without an external power source. This processing method combines the ability of electroless plating to form a uniform film thickness on complex shapes with the excellent mass productivity and cost efficiency of barrel processing. It is mainly applied to small precision parts such as electronic components, automotive parts, and medical device components, for purposes such as improving corrosion resistance, wear resistance, hardness, and imparting electrical properties. Although care must be taken regarding scratches and deformation caused by contact between parts due to their agitation within the barrel, it is widely used as an efficient surface treatment technology suitable for mass production.
