Cost and Environmental Issues in Wooden Pallet Operations
Wooden pallets are still commonly used at logistics sites in Thailand. However, rising prices of natural timber caused by the wood shock and difficulties in procurement have become risks to business continuity for companies. In addition, when wooden pallets are used for export, disposal costs arise in the destination country, and the CO2 emissions associated with disposal are also an issue that cannot be ignored.
Furthermore, wooden pallets carry the risk of mold and pest occurrence due to moisture. In industries that require a high level of hygiene control, such as food and precision equipment, the time and cost required for fumigation treatment become an additional burden. The combination of these factors can lead to an increase in total logistics costs.
Achieving International Through-Transportation with Asia Pallet Pool (APP)
Asia Pallet Pool (APP) is an extensive pallet rental network covering Thailand, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and North America.
By using this service, one-way rental is possible, allowing pallets to be “rented in the exporting country and returned in the importing country.” As a result, companies no longer need to own or manage pallets themselves, and disposal costs at the export destination are reduced to zero. In addition, by providing T11 pallets, which are standard in Japan and South Korea, the service eliminates the need for re-stacking and promotes logistics standardization.
Reducing Total Logistics Costs and Contributing to the Environment
Switching to a rental system not only reduces the burden of asset management but is also directly linked to reducing environmental impact. According to calculations by JPR (Asia), the shared-use and shared-collection system can reduce CO2 emissions compared with self-owned pallet operations.

| Disposal Costs | Incurred in the export destination country | Zero (returned to a local depot) |
| Environmental Impact (CO2) | High (involves disposal and incineration) | Low (has a CO2 reduction effect) |
| Hygiene / Quality | Risk of mold, pests, and splinters | Made from high-strength plastic and hygienic |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How is this network different from other rental companies?
A: In the Asian region, JPR (Asia) is the only company with a wide-area network covering countries such as Japan, Thailand, China, South Korea, and Malaysia, and with the ability to deliver and collect pallets across these locations.
Q: Is there any resistance at logistics sites when switching from wooden pallets?
A: For on-site operations, the work process does not change whether wooden pallets or plastic pallets are used. Since plastic pallets are hygienic, they help maintain product quality at the customer’s site.
Q: Can one-way rental be used in countries other than Japan?
A: Yes. Pallet delivery and return are available in China, Singapore, ASEAN countries, and North America.
