CERTESS® SD – PVD Coating to Enhance the Performance of Aluminum Die-Casting Molds
Aluminum die-casting molds face significant challenges such as erosion and wear in high-temperature operating environments. CERTESS® SD is a PVD coating technology developed to protect molds under such harsh conditions. The high-hardness thin film, based on TiAlN, protects the mold surface and significantly improves wear resistance, erosion resistance, and heat resistance.Additionally, applying CERTESS® SD extends the mold maintenance cycle and contributes to reducing manufacturing costs.
■ Features
Erosion Resistance: High resistance to aluminum erosion, reducing mold damage.
Wear Resistance: A TiAlN-based coating with excellent wear resistance, ensuring longer service life.
Heat Resistance: Maintains stable performance even in high-temperature environments.
Improved Maintenance Efficiency: Reduces the frequency of mold maintenance, improving productivity.
Cost Efficiency: Extends mold life, reducing cost per shot.
■ Application Examples
Case: Al-13%Si Die-Casting
Mold Purpose: Aluminum erosion prevention
Result: Shot life increased from 14,000 → 25,000 shots
Case: Al-13%Si Die-Casting
Mold Purpose: For forming seal grooves
Result: Shot life increased from 20,000 → 25,000 shots
Case: Al-13%Si Die-Casting
Mold Purpose: Reduction of cleaning frequency
Result: Mold cleaning frequency reduced from 3 times/day → 1 time/day
These results demonstrate that CERTESS® SD dramatically improves mold durability and cost efficiency.
