Self-drilling screw (Self Drill Screw) (Samut Prakan, Thailand)
Self-drilling screws are tools for securely fastening to steel frames and wooden frames, and can be used directly without pre-drilling. They are primarily used for roofing materials, wall materials, plywood, lightweight wall panels, etc., in construction and general industry. The tip of a self-drilling screw is sharp like a drill bit and is compatible with electric drills and drivers. The screws are made of rust-proof steel or stainless steel, offering high strength, resistance to pressure, and do not bend easily. Self-drilling screws come in various types, including drill point, slotted cut point, hex drill point, and winged drill point, each with different fastening methods and characteristics. Choosing the appropriate size and length leads to secure fastening according to the material.
Types of Self-Drilling Screws
1.) Button Head or Wafer Head Self-Drilling Screws
These screws have a wide, flat head and secure materials with strong pressure against steel frames. The drill point with sharp threads can be used directly with an electric driver or drill and does not require pre-drilling, allowing for quick installation. They are suitable for hard surface materials such as sign installation, DIY projects, door and window hinges, and steel or wooden frames.
2.) Winged Self-Drilling Screws
A feature of these screws is that they have small wings at the tip, which ream out the top part of the material, allowing the screw's taper to firmly embed into the steel. Winged screws are suitable for fastening wood to steel frames without pre-drilling and are ideal for installing materials such as fiber cement board, plywood, and gypsum board.
3.) Hex Head Self-Drilling Screws with Seal
They have a hexagonal, rust-proof head with a seal, providing insulation, high UV resistance, and preventing water leakage while protecting the edges of the screw hole. By attaching a hex socket to an electric drill, installation can be easily done without pre-drilling. They are mainly suitable for fastening steel frame roofs, wall panels, louvers, and various covers.
4.) Tapered Self-Drilling Screws
They have a flat head and a groove compatible with Phillips screwdrivers, and can be used on steel up to 3.2 mm thick without pre-drilling. The drill point with sharp threads is rust-resistant, can drill holes quickly, and provides strong fastening with less pressure. They are suitable for fastening steel frames, wood, and fiber cement boards.
5.) Self-Drilling Anchors for Gypsum Board
These are auxiliary tools used with self-tapping screws or ordinary screws, with sharp threads that penetrate the material and provide strong fastening simultaneously. Installation is easy: simply insert the anchor into the gypsum board using a screwdriver and secure it with a screw. They are mainly suitable for ceiling installation in gypsum board and plywood.
