We manufactured a worm wheel for gearbox repair.
We received a report that the gearbox was not operating smoothly.
The worm wheel side of the worm gear was worn away, causing it to free-spin under no load.
① Because the gear ratio per revolution is of a special design, it would not operate correctly if replaced with a general-purpose product.
② Individual gear purchase from the manufacturer was not possible, and an assembly replacement would be expensive.
For these reasons, we manufactured a special, standalone worm wheel.
As a guideline for delivery time, sizes that can be held with one hand take approximately 3 weeks, and larger sizes take 2 months or more.
There are few companies that manufacture custom gears, and there is a waiting list.
Three weeks after sending the drawings, the new worm wheel arrived.
It was integrated into the gearbox, and the repair was completed.
Although custom gears are expensive, they are more affordable and have shorter lead times than replacing the entire assembly.
In this case, we were able to achieve cost savings of 300,000 to 400,000 JPY.
The lifespan of a worm wheel is 3 to 5 years.
