What Are “Metal Chips” in Metalworking?
【What Are Metal Chips?】
“Metal chips” is a collective term for cutting chips and grinding residues generated during metalworking processes such as cutting and grinding.
Their shape and size vary significantly depending on the machining method used.
When selecting a coolant filtration system,
the material of the metal chips, as well as their shape and size,
are critical decision criteria.
These conditions determine the appropriate filter media and system configuration.
【Material of Metal Chips】
In selecting filter media for coolant filtration systems,
the material of the metal chips is the most important factor.
We recommend filtration systems based on the following criteria:
◎ Magnetic materials (materials that adhere to metal magnets)
Examples: iron, FC, FCD, etc.
→ Magnetic-type coolant filtration systems are recommended
◎ Non-magnetic materials (materials that do not adhere to magnets)
Examples: aluminum, stainless steel, etc.
→ Systems using punching filters or mesh filters are recommended
In addition,
we offer filtration systems capable of handling both magnetic and non-magnetic materials,
as well as dedicated equipment for collecting floating oil and scum on the coolant surface.
【Shape and Size of Metal Chips】
To optimize filtration performance,
magnet strength and filter mesh size must be selected
according to the shape and particle size of the metal chips.
