TrueR Panel-Mounted Continuous Insulation Monitor | Continuous Ior Monitoring Without Power Interruption | Early Detection of Fire and Electric Shock Risks Caused by Current Leakage
In factory electrical facilities, current leakage can occur due to insulation deterioration of wires and equipment, aging, or incorrect wiring, which may lead to electric shocks, fires, or equipment failures.
The "TrueR Detector - TRO I" is a panel-mounted insulation monitor that utilizes the TrueR method to monitor the resistive leakage current (Ior) associated with insulation abnormalities.
It continuously monitors Ior while the equipment is in operation. If the value exceeds the set limit, it displays an alarm and sends the alarm information to a management server. This can be utilized for early detection of insulation deterioration and equipment maintenance.
Nippon Denka Kogyosho(Thailand) Ltd. handles the "TrueR Detector - TRO I" manufactured by Sobrain for the market in Thailand.
Additionally, we offer a current leakage detection service (first time free of charge) using measuring instruments equipped with the TrueR method. Please feel free to consult with us.

■ What is the TrueR method?
Standard earth leakage circuit breakers and earth leakage relays detect Io, which is the total leakage current. Io includes Ioc, which is caused by capacitance, and Ior, which is related to insulation deterioration.
Item | Description |
Io | Total leakage current of the entire circuit |
Ioc | Leakage current component caused by the capacitance to ground of wiring and equipment |
Ior | Resistive leakage current caused by insulation deterioration, etc. |
Although Ioc is not caused by insulation abnormalities, standard current leakage monitoring may detect it without distinguishing it from Ior.
The TrueR method is a technology that calculates Ior from the measured RMS current to capture the leakage current specifically related to insulation abnormalities. By eliminating the influence of components not caused by insulation faults, it can be utilized for identifying abnormal locations, diagnosing wiring errors, and tracking the trend of insulation deterioration.
■ Monitoring insulation status without power interruption
A major feature of the TrueR method is the ability to check the insulation status while the equipment is running.
Measurement with a standard insulation resistance tester requires shutting down the equipment for inspection. Therefore, it is difficult to continuously monitor insulation deterioration that actually occurs when the equipment is running or abnormalities that change over time.
With the TrueR Detector - TRO I, Ior can be monitored continuously even while the equipment is in operation. This makes it possible to grasp changes in the insulation status that are difficult to detect through periodic inspections alone, and can be utilized for confirming signs of abnormalities and for preventive maintenance.
It is especially suitable for routine insulation monitoring in facilities that operate continuously for long periods or factories where equipment shutdowns significantly impact production.
■ Compatible electrical circuits and main installation locations
The TrueR Detector - TRO I supports various electrical circuit systems.
Item | Supported Details |
Single-phase | Single-phase 2-wire / Single-phase 3-wire |
Three-phase | Three-phase Delta / Three-phase Star |
Grounding system | TT grounding / TN grounding |
Leakage current measurement | 2 channels |
It can be installed in main factory trunk lines, main distribution boards, branch panels, and control panels of machinery to monitor Ior.
Appropriate CTs are used for measurement according to the circuit. CTs are selected based on the current capacity of the main line and the space inside the panel.

■ Alarm and data monitoring
When the measured Ior exceeds the set value, the TrueR Detector - TRO I displays an alarm lamp and sends the alarm information to the management server. The alarm setting value can be set in the range of 10 to 2,000mA, allowing for operation tailored to the equipment or circuit being monitored.
In addition to contact outputs, it is equipped with an RS-485 output, supporting connection with monitoring applications. Continuously checking the Ior status allows changes in insulation conditions and signs of abnormalities to be utilized for equipment maintenance.
Current leakage can occur not only due to insulation deterioration but also due to wiring errors or aging equipment. Continuously monitoring the status while equipment is running, in addition to periodic inspections, leads to better safety management of electrical facilities.

■ FAQ
Q1. Can the insulation status be monitored without stopping the electricity?
A1 : Yes. Because the TrueR method can measure Ior while the equipment is operating, you can continuously monitor the insulation status without shutting off the power. However, regarding the equipment installation work, it is necessary to confirm the required safety measures depending on the existing equipment and the conditions inside the panel.
Q2. Can it be installed in existing distribution boards or control panels?
A2 : Yes. Installation in existing main distribution boards, branch panels, or control panels can be considered after checking the installation space inside the panel, the electrical circuit, and the CT installation conditions. The main unit supports both DIN rail and screw mounting.
Q3. What kind of electrical circuit systems are supported?
A3 : It supports single-phase 2-wire, single-phase 3-wire, three-phase Delta, and three-phase Star systems. It also supports TT and TN grounding systems. For actual installation, the appropriate measurement method will be selected after confirming the configuration of the existing electrical circuit.
