Core Pin for Die casting|3× Longer Service Life with Advanced Surface Coating
Common Challenges in Die Casting OperationsIn die casting or injection molding processes, the core pin is a crucial component used to create internal holes within molded parts. However, in actual production, various issues often arise that directly affect product quality and manufacturing cost. Common problems include core pin wear caused by contact with molten metal at extremely high temperatures (approx. 600–700°C), aluminum or magnesium sticking to the pin surface (soldering/sticking), surface corrosion from gases or coolants, and dimensional accuracy reduction. These issues can lead to defects in finished parts and increase the reject rate.
Main Causes of the Problems
Most of these issues occur due to the use of general-grade steels that are not suitable for high temperatures or surface coatings that are improperly processed such as over-heating during coating, which reduces surface hardness. With continual use, the core pin surface oxidizes, wears down, and allows molten metal to stick more easily. This results in frequent production line stoppages to replace the pins, inevitably increasing overall production costs.
Solution
Yamaichi Special Steel (Thailand) has developed enhanced core pins for die casting and injection molding using a Multi-Layer Coating System. This technology improves strength, wear resistance, and durability under prolonged high-temperature conditions. The system combines surface hardening treatments with multi-layer PVD/CVD thin-film coatings to increase surface hardness, enhance adhesion, and reduce metal-to-metal friction. Some models also utilize PCVD (Plasma CVD) for even greater toughness and coating adhesion. The result is a core pin with significantly higher resistance to heat and wear, reduced metal sticking, and a service life up to 3 times longer than conventional core pins.
Key Features of Yamaichi Core Pins
Yamaichi core pins are made from premium Japanese tool steel and undergo heat treatment and precision grinding using Japanese-standard machinery to achieve excellent dimensional accuracy and consistent surface finish. Each piece is strictly inspected according to NADCA and JIS G4404 standards. The coating technology used is the same level as that of major Japanese mold manufacturers, ensuring durability, stability, and extended product life.Custom manufacturing based on customer drawings is also available, making these core pins ideal for metal mold makers, plastic mold manufacturers, and automotive industry components.
