Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Local support in Thailand reduces three major costs of returning items to Japan
When scratches or wear occur on high-precision rolls, many factories choose to send them back to Japan for restoration due to concerns about inspection standards, particularly dimensional tolerances. However, when remanufacturing is conducted overseas, the following three types of cost burdens are unavoidable:
① Transportation costs, including barrier packaging for export and various taxes.
② Trade administrative costs, such as international remittance approvals and import/export management.
③ Invisible costs, including long lead times and production adjustments.
Our company has established a one-stop remanufacturing system for mirror rolls within Thailand. Because all processes of base grinding, re-plating, and mirror finishing are carried out inside the same factory, we significantly shorten lead times compared to overseas restoration.
Overseas remanufacturing often takes several months because it requires shipping, customs clearance, and import/export procedures, in addition to coordination periods with the foreign factory. On the other hand, completing everything within Thailand eliminates these steps, shortening equipment downtime and making production planning much easier. Furthermore, from the perspectives of cost competitiveness, delivery time, and quality assurance, even if a problem should arise, we can quickly inspect the actual part and investigate the root cause on-site.
Remanufacturing process for scratched, dented, and worn rolls
We accommodate single-item orders, custom-made products, and items without drawings, designing the optimal remanufacturing process tailored to the actual condition of each product.
1. Incoming Inspection of the Product
Upon receipt, we measure and check scratches, dents, wear conditions, dimensions, runout, plating thickness, and surface roughness.
2. Determining the Remanufacturing
Policy Based on the Inspection Sheet First, we determine the strategy for correcting runout and center holes. We check the degree of damage on the roll surface and shaft area to estimate the pre-plating base dimensions required after the scratch-removal process. Based on this, the final finishing dimensions and the necessary plating thickness are calculated.
3. Base Adjustment
Scratches, rust, irregularities, and old, deteriorated surface layers are ground away to adjust the surface to an optimal state before plating. For deep scratches, partial restoration is performed using specialized welding technology that minimizes thermal effects.
4. Re-plating
Dimensions lost during the removal of scratches or wear are, in principle, restored to their original dimensional standards using hard chrome plating. The plating process is a low-temperature treatment of approximately 55°C, meaning it is less prone to thermal deformation compared to welding.
5. Mirror Finishing
Using a dedicated mirror grinding machine, we finish the roll to your specified dimensional tolerances and surface roughness.
6. Quality Inspection and Report
Generation According to customer requirements, we measure and inspect dimensional tolerances, runout, surface roughness, and plating thickness.
Manufacturing a brand-new mirror roll requires significant cost and time. If a roll has a unique specification and no spare is available, line shutdowns during the manufacturing period can result in huge opportunity losses. Through this integrated remanufacturing process, we contribute to extending the lifespan of existing rolls and reducing new procurement costs.
Quality control system led by experienced Japanese engineers
For mirror rolls that require high precision, not only dimensional accuracy but also surface conditions and hardness directly affect product quality. Our factory has permanently stationed Japanese engineers with over 30 years of specialized experience in hard chrome plating. They manage quality consistently throughout the entire process, from production and plating solution management to final inspections. Furthermore, we provide technical consultations regarding special specifications and roll modifications in three languages: Japanese, Thai, and Chinese.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can a roll still be reused if it has deep scratches or dents on the surface?
A: In many cases, it can be remanufactured. We will inspect the actual item, determine the necessary plating thickness and restoration method according to the damage state, and restore it to a condition close to its original specifications.
Q: Can you remanufacturing a roll even if there are no drawings?
A: Yes, we can handle it. We will inspect the actual item, measure the dimensions, check the damage condition, and propose the most suitable remanufacturing method.
Q: Can worn shafts or rolls be restored to their original dimensions?
A: Yes, this is possible in most cases. Including shaft center correction and journal area restoration, we will restore the item to your specified dimensions via coaxial grinding.
Q: Is it possible to issue an inspection certificate (report)?
A: Yes, it is possible. We will create an inspection report summarizing the measurement results for dimensional tolerances, runout, surface roughness, plating thickness, etc., and submit it at the time of delivery.
