■ Overview and Supply Structure

Because hot work tool steel is used repeatedly in high-temperature environments, high-temperature strength, toughness, heat check resistance, and impact resistance are required.

In addition to standard SKD61-equivalent steel, we comprehensively handle modified steel grades with enhanced toughness and heat check resistance, steel grades for high thermal loads, as well as SKT4-equivalent steel for hot forging.

Rather than selecting steel grades solely from standard specifications, we propose materials suitable for the application after checking the following conditions:

• Application of molds and components
• Operating temperature and thermal cycles
• Required hardness
• Magnitude of impact load
• Occurrence of heat checks or cracks
• Required mold lifespan

■ Material Selection according to Application and Operating Conditions

Aluminum Die Casting Molds and Related Parts
Main recommended steel grades: TGE13, TGGP13, TGE23, TGGP11

Due to contact with molten metal and repeated heating and cooling, heat checks or cracks may occur on the mold surface.

For standard conditions, TGE13 is considered, while TGGP13, TGE23, TGGP11, etc., are considered when high toughness or heat check resistance is required.

Hot Forging Molds and Die Blocks
Main recommended steel grades: 1.2714, 1.2367 SUP, H10

In hammer forging and press forging, large impact loads are repeatedly applied in addition to high temperatures.

For die blocks and hot forging applications where impact resistance is emphasized, we recommend 1.2714 in the SKT4 series. For high thermal load environments or long-duration high-temperature environments, 1.2367 SUP or H10 is considered.

■ Selection Guidelines by Operating Conditions

If cracking or premature breakage occurs in the mold, it is necessary to check not only the material, but also the hardness, heat treatment conditions, mold geometry, and cooling conditions. We support appropriate steel selection while reviewing actual operating conditions.
