■ Preventing Heat Buildup While Maintaining a Black Appearance
Black plastic components and automotive parts used outdoors tend to increase in temperature by absorbing sunlight, which may cause thermal deformation, warpage, and other issues. Conventional black coloration using carbon black readily absorbs near-infrared radiation contained in sunlight, making heat more likely to accumulate on the surface and inside molded products.
“Cool Black” is a functional processed black pigment that does not use carbon black and instead combines pigments with near-infrared reflection and transmission properties. Compared with molded products using conventional carbon black, it can suppress temperature increases while maintaining a black appearance.
Suppressing heat buildup helps reduce loads caused by thermal expansion and the risk of thermal deformation, while also helping maintain the dimensional stability and durability of molded products and providing a measure against burns caused by elevated temperatures.
In addition, advanced color-matching technology enables colors such as brown and other shades to be produced despite the use of black-based pigments. It is suitable for automotive parts and various resin components requiring high appearance quality.

Supply System in Japan and Thailand
Depending on the molding process and processing method, the product can be supplied as a masterbatch that is mixed with the base resin before injection molding or extrusion molding.
In addition to supply within Japan, a local support and logistics system is available in Thailand through the group company SAKAI TRADING (THAILAND) CO.,LTD., enabling supply to customers including Japanese-affiliated molding manufacturers operating locally.
■ Advanced Dispersion Technology and Quality Control System
To achieve a uniform, deep black color without using carbon black, it is important to blend multiple organic and inorganic pigments in appropriate ratios and disperse them uniformly.
Insufficient pigment dispersion may cause color unevenness, color variation, or appearance defects resulting from pigment agglomeration. By utilizing proprietary dispersion technology as well as kneading and grinding equipment, multiple pigments are uniformly dispersed in the base resin, suppressing pigment agglomeration and maintaining stable coloring performance.
For quality control, color tone, solar reflectance and transmittance are measured using a spectrophotometer, and evaluations related to temperature increase are also conducted to maintain stable optical properties and heat-shielding performance from lot to lot.
The production plant has obtained ISO 9001 quality management system certification and ISO 14001 environmental management system certification, with a management system in place to supply products with consistent quality.
■ Consultation and Trial Evaluation Process
1. Inquiry and Specification Confirmation
We confirm the base resin to be used, molding method, required black color tone and appearance, operating environment, heat-resistance conditions, and other specifications.
2. Formulation Design and Color Matching
An appropriate formulation is considered according to the resin used and required characteristics, followed by laboratory-scale color matching and trial production.
3. Sample Provision and Evaluation
Samples such as color-matched masterbatch are provided. Moldability and color tone can be checked using actual equipment, and when necessary, comparative evaluations of temperature increases are conducted using infrared lamps or similar methods.
4. Specification Finalization and Mass-Production Supply
Based on evaluation results for color tone, heat-shielding performance, moldability, physical properties, and other factors, specifications and quality control standards are determined before proceeding to mass-production supply.

■ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1 : How does “Cool Black” differ from conventional carbon black?
A1 : Conventional carbon black absorbs near-infrared radiation, so molded products tend to increase in temperature when exposed to sunlight.
“Cool Black” does not use carbon black. By combining pigments that reflect and transmit near-infrared radiation, it suppresses temperature increases on the surface and inside the molded product while maintaining a black appearance.
Q2. What types of resin can it be added to?
A2 : Yes. It can be used with a wide range of resins, including polyolefins (PE, PP), PVC, various thermoplastic resins, and elastomers. An appropriate carrier resin and pigment composition are proposed according to conditions such as the resin used and the molding temperature.
Q3. Is supply and technical support available in Thailand and Southeast Asia?
A3 : Yes. In Thailand, a supply and support system is available through the group company SAKAI TRADING (THAILAND) CO.,LTD., supporting adoption at local factories as well as technical consultations.
