【High-Strength Low-Profile Cross-Recessed Screw】QuaStix® Arc-Shaped Recess Reduces Cam-Out and Supports High-Torque Transmission and Space-Saving Fastening
LINEX PRECISION (THAILAND) CO., LTD. supplies high-strength, low-profile cross-recessed screws featuring the proprietary “QuaStix®” recess design in Thailand.
The arc-shaped drive surfaces transmit tightening torque while reducing cam-out, and the low-profile head enables fastening in confined spaces inside equipment. Because commercially available cross-head bits can be used, the screws can be considered for use with existing assembly equipment without the need to introduce new dedicated tools.

Cam-Out Reduction and High-Torque Transmission with the QuaStix® Arc-Shaped Recess
With conventional cross recesses, tightening can generate a force that pushes the driver bit upward, potentially causing the bit to lift out of the recess or damaging the screw recess.
High-strength, low-profile cross-recessed screws is a four-groove recess featuring arc-shaped drive surfaces and a drive angle of 0 degrees or less. Its geometry reduces the force component that pushes the bit upward and helps maintain engagement between the bit and the recess.
This reduces the risk of cam-out and recess damage during tightening, while also minimizing scratches on surrounding components and rework during assembly.
The following reference values show the recess failure torque of low-profile screws compared with conventional cross-recessed screws.
Screw Size | Conventional Cross Recess | QuaStix® |
M3 | 0.97 N·m | 1.36 N·m |
M4 | 1.94 N·m | 2.90 N·m |
Although the fastening recess is incorporated into a low-profile screw head, the design reduces deformation and damage to the recess while transmitting tightening torque to the threaded section.
These figures are reference values obtained under specified test conditions. Actual tightening conditions are established according to the material, surface treatment, screw size, mating material, and other factors.
Screw loosening is also affected not only by tightening torque but by axial force, bearing-surface condition, coefficient of friction, vibration, temperature changes, and other factors. When anti-loosening measures are required, a separate evaluation is conducted according to the operating conditions.
Space-Saving Fastening with a Low-Profile Head Design
QuaStix® low-profile cross-recessed screws are designed with a reduced head height.
Reducing the protrusion of the screw head makes it easier to avoid interference with surrounding components. The screws are therefore suitable for fastening applications in equipment with limited internal space, including precision equipment, semiconductor-related equipment, compact robots, and labor-saving machinery.
The standard dimensions of the low-profile screws are shown below.
Screw Size | Recess | Head Diameter φdk | Head Height k |
M2 | QS-1 | 4.0 mm | 0.9 mm |
M3 | QS-1 | 6.0 mm | 1.1 mm |
M4 | QS-2 | 8.0 mm | 1.2 mm |
M5 | QS-2 | 10.0 mm | 1.3 mm |
Screw sizes, lengths, materials, and surface treatments outside the standard specifications are considered individually after reviewing the operating conditions and required quantity.
Compatible with Commercially Available Cross-Head Bits
In addition to dedicated bits, QuaStix® screws can also be fastened using commercially available cross-head bits. This allows implementation to be considered while continuing to use existing tools and automatic screw-tightening equipment.
However, a dedicated QuaStix® bit is more suitable for fully utilizing the cam-out reduction and torque transmission performance.
When introducing the screws into a mass-production process, the fastening conditions are reviewed, including the bit used, tightening torque, downward force, and rotational speed.
Supported Specifications and Technical Support in Thailand
At LINEX PRECISION (THAILAND), personnel including Japanese engineers review conditions such as the operating environment, required strength, screw size, tightening torque, and surface treatment.
Drawings, quality requirements, and fastening conditions can also be coordinated directly in Japanese between the design department in Japan and the purchasing and manufacturing departments in Thailand.
As a local point of contact in Thailand, we provide support from specification selection and prototyping through mass-production supply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can small quantities for prototyping be arranged in Thailand?
A1: We will confirm whether the request can be accommodated after reviewing the required quantity, screw size, length, material, surface treatment, and requested delivery date.
Specifications outside the standard range are also considered individually according to the operating conditions.
Q2: Is a dedicated fastening tool required?
A2: Commercially available cross-head bits can be used. However, a dedicated QuaStix® bit is more suitable for fully utilizing the cam-out reduction and torque transmission performance.
When introducing the screws into existing equipment, we review the bit geometry and fastening conditions currently in use.
Q3: Can screw loosening be prevented by tightening at a high torque?
A3: The ability to transmit tightening torque properly and the ability to prevent loosening during use are separate performance characteristics.
Screw loosening is affected by fastening axial force, coefficient of friction, bearing-surface condition, vibration, temperature changes, and other factors. The tightening torque setting and anti-loosening method are evaluated according to the operating conditions.
If you are experiencing interference from screw heads inside equipment, cam-out during tightening, or recess damage in low-profile screws, please provide the drawing of the application area, screw size, required length, material, surface treatment, and fastening conditions.
We will propose suitable specifications for QuaStix® low-profile cross-recessed screws and a procurement method within Thailand.
※ Available screw sizes, materials, surface treatments, supply quantities, and delivery times vary depending on the specifications. Please contact us individually for further details.
