Benefits of Installing a Briquetting Machine
CNC machining processes generate metal chips and grinding swarf contaminated with cutting oil or coolant. If these materials are stored or transported without treatment, they can create additional burdens related to oil leakage, storage space, waste disposal, and cleaning.
- 5S and Workplace Safety
When metal chips containing cutting oil are stored or transported, oil may leak onto floors and walkways, causing contamination and increasing the risk of slips and falls.
By separating the oil and compressing the chips into briquettes, the metal chips and liquid can be managed separately, helping improve 5S activities and the overall working environment.
- Reduced Storage Space
Long or curled metal chips can be bulky and require significant storage space. After crushing and compressing them into high-density briquettes, the chip volume can be reduced, making storage and transportation easier.
- Cutting Oil and Coolant Recovery and Reuse
Cutting oil and coolant adhering to the chips can be separated and recovered during the deoiling process.
The recovered liquid can be filtered or purified as required before being reused, helping reduce fluid consumption and the burden of waste liquid disposal.
- Reuse as a Metal Resource
Briquettes made from deoiled and compressed metal chips are easier to store and transport than loose chips.
Depending on the material and operating conditions, they can be sold as scrap or used for remelting, supporting the reuse of metal resources.
Reducing chip volume can also help decrease collection and removal frequency and reduce logistics workload.
Technical Features of the Briquetting Machine
- Automatic Operation Based on Chip Volume
Sensors detect the chip feeding condition, and the machine automatically starts operation when chips are supplied.
If the machine runs for five consecutive cycles without chips, it switches to standby mode to reduce unnecessary continuous operation.
- Cutting Oil and Coolant Recovery Tank
The recovery tank can be equipped with a float sensor and pump.
Recovered cutting oil or coolant can be collected and transferred to downstream purification or reuse systems.
- Flexible Component Brand Selection
Major components such as motors, PLCs, and electrical equipment can be specified according to the customer’s factory standards and maintenance policy.
By selecting components that are easy to procure in Thailand, the system can also be configured with post-installation maintainability in mind.
- Customization to Match the Factory Layout
In addition to standalone equipment, complete systems can be designed by combining chip feeding equipment, conveyors, crushers, deoiling units, briquetting machines, and collection boxes.
The layout can be designed according to available installation space and existing equipment, with specifications confirmed using CAD drawings during the design process.
Depending on the equipment and specification, 100V, 200V, 220V, and 380V power supplies can be supported.
Metal Chip Processing System Workflow
Depending on the condition of the chips and the factory layout, the process from chip feeding through compaction and collection can be configured as an integrated system.

- Chip Feeding
A cart containing metal chips is placed on a tipping unit, which feeds the chips into the processing line. Depending on the factory’s material handling method, feeding systems using carts or AGVs can also be considered. - Chip Crushing
Long or curled chips are fed into a crusher and reduced to a size that is easier to process in the following stages. - Oil Separation
Cutting oil and coolant adhering to the crushed chips are separated using a deoiling unit. The recovered liquid is transferred to a recovery tank and can be purified and reused as required. - Briquette Forming
After deoiling, the chips are conveyed to the briquetting machine and compressed into high-density solid briquettes using hydraulic pressure. - Discharge and Collection
The formed briquettes are transferred from the discharge unit to a collection box. Depending on the factory’s operating method, collection using flexible bulk containers or metal collection boxes can also be supported.
Supported Metal Chips and Grinding Swarf
The system can handle various types of metal chips and grinding swarf.
Supported materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, and titanium, as well as chips generated from gear cutting and hobbing processes and grinding sludge.
Equipment is selected according to the material type and chip condition.
Actual processing capacity and briquette formation vary depending on the material, chip shape, and oil content. Sample testing using actual materials can therefore be performed when required.
Delivery Track Record
By 2024, the manufacturer had delivered more than 700 sets of briquetting machines and metal chip processing systems in China and overseas.
The systems are mainly used in automotive and automotive parts manufacturing, precision machinery, and general industrial equipment production.
Service and Support in Thailand
Hose Master (Thailand) is a Thai-Chinese joint venture and provides support in Thailand from briquetting machine sales and equipment selection to design, installation, and maintenance.
- On-Site Survey and Equipment Selection
Thai engineers can visit the customer’s factory to check chip material, shape, volume, available installation space, and transportation methods.
Based on these conditions, either a standalone briquetting machine or a complete processing system including crushing, deoiling, and conveying equipment can be proposed.
- Testing with Actual Samples
Testing can be carried out using the customer’s actual metal chips or grinding swarf.
The briquette formation condition and oil separation performance can be checked and reflected in the final equipment specification.
- Support from Design Through Installation
After the on-site survey, CAD drawings are used to confirm the equipment layout and specifications.
Once the specifications are finalized, support is provided through manufacturing, assembly, trial operation, shipment, installation, and adjustment in Thailand.
- Maintenance and Spare Parts Support in Thailand
Major spare parts and consumable items can be supplied and replaced in Thailand.
The machine is covered by a one-year warranty, with maintenance support provided through cooperation between Hose Master (Thailand) and the manufacturer in China.
- Support in Japanese, Thai, English, and Chinese
Thai engineers and Japanese staff work together to provide support in Japanese, Thai, English, and Chinese.
Customers in Thailand can consult the team regarding equipment selection, design, installation, and post-installation maintenance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can we test our actual metal chips before purchasing the machine?
