A Japanese Mechanical Design Engineer Is Stationed in Thailand! Leave the Design and Manufacturing of Production Equipment to Nagai Giken

One of our strengths is that we can provide one-stop service in Thailand, from the design to the manufacturing of production equipment, jigs, and other products. Since April 2022, a veteran Japanese mechanical design engineer with 15 years of design experience has been stationed in Thailand, further expanding the range of equipment that can be designed locally. We are now able to propose equipment that meets our customers’ requirements.

■ Both Japanese and Thai Designers Utilize 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS)

We mainly use the 3D CAD software “SOLIDWORKS” for our design work. Our Thai staff who have undergone technical training in Japan can operate CAD, but generally, becoming a fully qualified design engineer requires at least 5 to 10 years of design and manufacturing experience. For this reason, until now, full-scale equipment design and complex equipment improvement projects have been handled with the involvement of engineers from our headquarters in Japan.

However, demand for automation has recently been accelerating in Thailand as well, creating a need for faster responses. Since there were limits to what could be handled through remote communication with engineers in Japan, we believe having an experienced Japanese designer stationed in Thailand provides a major advantage for both our company and our customers.

■ Proposing the Most Suitable Designs in Accordance with the Standardized Specifications at Customers’ Worksites

In equipment design, it is extremely important to conduct preliminary interviews regarding the conditions under which the customer will use the equipment. We make every effort to design according to the standards established at each customer’s worksite, such as the maintenance parts they regularly use and the manufacturers of robots used on their production lines.

Because we handle everything in house, from design～parts machining～assembly, we take factors such as cost and ease of manufacturing into consideration so that we can respond flexibly to customer requirements.
For example, when attempting to manufacture equipment in Thailand using drawings from a Japanese headquarters, the design often assumes the use of materials that are difficult to obtain in Thailand, resulting in various issues involving cost, manufacturing lead time, and other factors. In such cases, there have been many projects where we redesigned the specifications to make them easier to produce in Thailand and successfully resolved the issues.
