■ Overview and Supply Structure

Plastic mold steel requires properties that match molding conditions, including not only machinability and EDM processability, but also mirror polishability, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance.

We select material grades focusing on plastic mold steel manufactured by TG (Tiangong) after verifying the following conditions:

• Type of resin to be molded
• Additives such as glass fiber or flame retardants
• Generation of corrosive gas
• Required level of mirror polish
• Polishability after electrical discharge machining (EDM)
• Mold operating and storage environments

Taking into account the uniquely high temperature and high humidity environment of Thailand, we support steel grade selection based on mold issues such as pinholes, corrosion, and cracking.

■ Material Selection According to Application and Operating Environment

General Resin Molding Molds
Main recommended steel grades: TGP50, SM-Modifine

Suitable for general resin molding molds, such as home appliance parts and automotive interior/exterior components. Recommended for applications requiring uniform hardness, machinability, and polishability after EDM.

High-Precision and High Mirror-Finish Molds
Main recommended steel grade: TGP80

Suitable for molds requiring high dimensional accuracy and high mirror polishing, such as precision mechanical parts and transparent resin parts.

Molds Requiring Corrosion and Wear Resistance
Main recommended steel grade: TGS136

Suitable for applications where corrosive gas is generated during molding, such as flame-retardant resins, or applications where molds are prone to wear, such as glass-fiber reinforced resins.

■ Improvement Track Record in Thailand

For plastic mold manufacturers in Thailand, we proposed TG material equivalent to NAK80 after reviewing the operating environment and the characteristics of pinhole and cracking issues occurring with conventional materials.

After switching to this material, the issues were resolved, and it has since been continuously adopted as the designated material on drawings.
